You could finally start that blog, write that book, take that class, or do just about anything you have always wanted to do but simply didn’t have time for.

The good news is you can have all that extra time (and more) by mastering just one skill: Outsourcing!

In this post I am going to go through the basic ins and outs of outsourcing and how you too can get started in as little as 5 minutes.

Why Outsource?

A number of years ago I was sitting at a restaurant when I overheard two older gentlemen catching up. One of them says “I heard you retired a couple months ago. How is that going?”

The second gentleman responded “yeah I did, and I’ve been so busy… I don’t know how I ever got anything done when I was working full time!”

They both chuckled.

The number one reason for outsourcing is: time. Once you get addicted to outsourcing aspects of your life (especially your business life), you will be amazed at how much you can get done working a whole lot less than you ever have.

The best part about outsourcing though? Expert help doesn’t have to cost you a fortune. There are extremely talented people all around you and all around the world just waiting for someone like you to keep them busy.

So – by outsourcing – you are not just helping yourself. You are also helping other people put food on their table. It’s what I like to call a “win-win!” for everyone involved.

What to Outsource

Outsource the things you hate doing or are not very good at doing. Maybe start with a list of things that overwhelm you. These can be personal things as well as business things. I’ve even heard of people outsourcing aspects of their jobs. Crazy, right?

I say you’d be crazy not to!

Outsource Your Personal Life

I know of someone who absolutely hates doing laundry. She lives alone and her apartment does not have a washing machine, so every weekend she had to take a couple hours out of her schedule to sit at a laundromat and do her laundry.

One day she was so fed up, she outsourced her laundry to a retired granny who was looking for something on the side to keep her busy while also giving her a few extra dollars to spoil her grand kids with.

Now – once a week – she drops her laundry basket off early morning at this granny’s house on her way to work and stops by on her way home to pick it up. Lo and behold the dreadful laundry is freshly washed, dried, and folded inside the basket. No drama… and yet it costs her no more than $100 per month.

Another person I know got tired of cooking every day, so he has a chef come in once per week and precook various meals. This way him and his daughter eat healthy home-made meals every day of the week without the stress of having to cook. He insists it’s cheaper yet more delicious than eating out.

A more common task to outsource is cleaning. We have had a cleaning lady come in 2 to 3 times per week for an hour or two to clean the house, beds, laundry, etc. When you work from home and you have a large house to take care of, this is a HUGE help… and allows you to stay focused on your family (or business projects) without the stress of a messy home.

All of this (and so much more) in your day to day life can be outsourced IF you’d rather pay someone than do it yourself.

The same goes for writing that book you have always wanted to write. There are plenty of very experienced ghostwriters and editors just waiting for someone like you to kick-start their next writing gig. And depending on the scope of the book you’re writing, you would be surprised how affordable hiring experienced writers can be.

Outsource tasks in your personal life that drive you up the wall or that just seem to never make it off of your “One Day” to do list. You’ll be surprised by how much mental space frees up to focus on things that matter most or that you actually enjoy.

Outsource Business Tasks

If there is one thing we learned during the 2019 – 2020 pandemic, it’s that a great many of the jobs currently done from office cubicles, can be done virtually from home. This comes with huge benefits for business owners and employees alike.

1. The business owner saves on not having to pay rent or electricity for the office space. Not to mention save on all the coffees the employees consume at the owners expense, hah.
2. The employee gets the benefit of not having to commute to and from work every day and gets to work in his or her pajamas from home. Heck, they could potentially even relocate to a more favorable location (why not?) and work 100% remotely through the internet.

My point is, if your business work load can be outsourced through the internet, why would you not do it? Hire someone to do the work you hate doing, don’t have time to do, or lack the skill set to get done. Things like:

• video editing
• software development
• customer support
• PowerPoint creation
• blog content creation
• editing & proofreading
• research
• legal consulting
• software development
• project management
• etc, etc.

Just about any tasks under the sun that does not require an in person presence can be outsourced online. The secret is finding out which tasks you can let someone do for you and then find that someone who can do it as well if not better than you.

Where to Outsource?

It really depends what you’re looking to get help with. If it’s for something local, talking to your local friends is probably the best place to start. If that doesn’t yield any prospects, try asking in your local Facebook community or list your need/offer in the local online classifieds.

There are a great many people looking to have a side gig and if that is all you need, you should have no problem finding someone who can meet your need at a price you’re willing to pay.

In regards to online outsourcing (my specialty), I mainly use Upwork nowadays. It’s super easy to set up an account and within just a few minutes create a job listing describing what you’re looking for. It has a slight learning curve to it but when you’ve done it once, the second time is a breeze.

Remember that the listing does not have to be long. Short and sweet (to the point) is usually what I go for and I have a plethora of candidates to chose from within just 24 hours.

The best part? Upwork has a mobile app that allows you to manage all your outsourcing via your smartphone. Meaning you can be in communication with your workers while on the go. I love it!

If it’s something minor, I have used Fiverr as well in the past but it simply isn’t what it used to be. It’s a third rate outsourcing platform at best now. Upwork gives you a lot more and more targeted options.

What if You’re A Control Freak?

I get it. I am a control freak if there ever was one. Somehow the old saying “If you want something done right, you got to do it yourself” is something I can relate to all too well.

The truth however is, my list of 100 things that I dragged with me for years, would largely still be undone if it had all waited on my time and inspiration. So not only is my mind a lot clearer for not having those 100 things haunting me every day, my business has also exploded.

Was every hire a magic problem solver? Nope. I won’t even pretend it was. However, seeing where outsourcing got me versus where I would be if I hadn’t outsourced, I would pick outsourcing every day of the year.

Hire a Project Manager

One thing I’ve been attempting to do is train one of the people I outsource to to become my project manager. Especially for projects that will require work on an ongoing basis.

So basically, instead of me trying to explain what I am trying to accomplish to a dozen different freelancers, I explain it well to my project manager and he sees to it that everything falls into place. This kind of trust and relationship takes time to build but if you find someone who can march to your beat, this becomes a lot of fun.

Create Systems & Guides

Another thing I do, I make extensive guides listing what and how I am needing tasks done. This way I get very clear in my mind as to what I am needing the freelancers to do, it also let’s the freelancers know exactly what my expectations of them are, and most important of all: If I ever need to hire a new freelancers for that (or similar) role, I already have a thorough guide I can start them off with.

This has been a huge time saver for me!

So yeah… I am a control freak and my detailed guides show plenty of evidence supporting that.

In the end, instead of obsessing over the details that – in the grand scheme of things aren’t that important – I try to remind myself to focus on the end goal and assume the freelancers do their best to help me get to that goal. Unless they clearly weren’t following my detailed instructions, but I’ll get into that later.

Finding that Perfect Person

Most people research their workers more than they research the political candidates they vote into office. Change that. Have a quick look at the people who applied to your listing and quickly eliminate the ones that don’t match what you’re looking for.

Heck, I often times go as far as eliminating people just because the vibe I get from looking at their profile doesn’t feel right. No point in going into a working relationship with someone you can not see yourself working with.

Once you’ve done your first round of candidate elimination, you will likely be left with a handful of people you could see yourself working with. Now look at their work history (if they got one), their ratings and reviews, and get a better feel for each of the remaining candidates.

Send them a message. Don’t trust their claims and promises too early. Ask for samples of previous work (if relevant).

I’ve been looking at polished profiles a few times that make me go “this person seems to tick every box of my checklist” and yet when I start chatting with them or ask them for samples, it becomes quickly evident that their profile isn’t an accurate portrayal of their skills or abilities.

While I never discriminate against people from foreign countries (I believe everyone deserves a fair shot and some of the most talented people I’ve hired over the years have been from non-native English speaking countries), I simply can not have subpar work being done for me. I have no problem paying well if the value is there, but the value has to be there.

If it’s for an ongoing project, I often hire two people and give them both a small paid task to see how they work. I quickly eliminate the one less suited for the job or switch them to a project that is more suited for them.

Now… give it time. It takes time to get to know a worker just as it takes time for them to learn how you tick. The relationship gets built as you do more and more work together.

Once you have that gem of a person who over delivers time and time again and you would hate for them to leave you, increase how much you pay them. I often look at their other ongoing work (on their Upwork profile) and make sure I am the highest paid client they work for. So if they need to let go of a client, I am the last on that list.

And guess what: If you have the right person and you take good care of them, they will do the same for you!

Hire Fast, Fire Faster!

I want to lead this point with a caveat: In absolutely every hire, treat the person with the utmost respect as though you just hired your grandmother. No matter what happens. Zero exceptions.

Just because you pay someone does not give you a right to abuse them. So do unto them as you would have them do to you should the roles be reversed.

With that said, know when you are being abused or taken advantage of. This often happens while they smile at you or pretend to laugh at your jokes.

If you ever feel the person you’re trusting with your business isn’t giving you their best or isn’t taking your work as seriously as they should be (like taking shortcuts or dragging out 1 hour worth of work to last a week), I find it’s best to cut ties and move on to someone more aligned with your vision.

I have had it happen a few times where a person tried making a life’s career out of a days worth of work. It always stings when this happens. It’s not a fair exchange of value and it upsets the spirit of trust, and I refuse to do business with people I don’t trust!

Paying Per Milestone vs. Per Hour

I often try negotiating a “pay per task” or “pay per milestone” deal instead of an hourly deal just because I prefer paying for value instead of time. This way if they get the work done quicker, they benefit, and if they drag their feet, you’re not paying them to do so.

In both scenarios you want to make sure they are not taking shortcuts and that the work done really is up to your expectations. If they come short, point it out and ask them to fix it. Often times it was a lack of communication on my part that lead them to skip a beat, so your communication has got to be thorough.

If you have given them a second chance and they are still not delivering to your standards – despite you outlining your expectations in detail – pay what you owe them, close the contract, and then replace them. There are too many over qualified people out there looking for work to entertain someone who isn’t delivering.

The main thing that line of thinking is lacking – in my opinion – is an emphasis on the importance of marketing.

Without some form of marketing, it is near impossible to gain worthwhile traction in a competitive marketplace with the ever decreasing span of attention. And so today I want to share with you a few effective platforms to market yourself online, to promote your business, to build a niche brand, etc.

#1. Google

When I first got started in internet marketing (nearly 20 years ago), I was intrigued by the idea of ranking top 3 on Google for my desired search phrases. I figured I’d be rich if I managed to do so.

One thing I did not know at the time was just how competitive (and consequently expensive) trying to rank on top of Google can get. I also did not realize just how long it can take. SEO (Search Engine Optimization) definitely is something worth pursuing if you own a website, but keep in mind that it will take time, energy, and a bit of know-how.

#2. Twitter

“Every business must have a twitter account” they say, and therefor most bigger businesses do. Even if for no other reason than for damage control. Nothing worse than negative publicity getting out of hand on social media, right?

But what if you could also leverage twitter to grow your business? I know most small business owners would argue they don’t have time for twitter, but in the words of Elon Musk “5 minutes here and there” is all you really need.

Install the twitter app on your phone and set up your account. Search for issues you or your business provide solutions for, and leave a short but thoughtful comment. And – 0f course – make a (niche related) thought provoking tweet as often as you can.

For example: If you own a plumbing business, maybe hint at how often hot water tanks need to be checked, replaced, etc. Or how a pipe upgrade in older homes can save fortunes from potential water damage, etc.

Of course make sure you have your website, email, or phone number listed in your profile so you can be reached by your preferred contact method.

#3. Facebook

Facebook is another hugely under-utilized marketing platform. Although I find people tend to be more reserved on Facebook than on twitter, you have the added benefit that you can create groups or pages dedicated to your business. So there is definitely an added sense of community in that!

Similar to any other marketing platform, the key to winning at Facebook marketing is consistency. That goes for both: sharing new content as well as engaging with the people commenting on said content.

#4. Instagram

Just about everyone carries a cellphone with them these days that has a half decent camera. If this is you, Instagram might be one of the easiest marketing platforms you can use with minimal effort. Just snap a picture or two while working, and post it on Instagram when you have a minute to do so.

One thing I might recommend for Instagram is to keep a list of the top used #hashtags (for your niche topic) on your phone somewhere that you can quickly copy paste into your description when posting the pictures. This greatly speeds up the posting process and helps you reach more targeted people.

The main thing here? Post something consistently (daily). Don’t worry about trying to make professional looking pictures. You get better over time. Just keep at it and you will start building a community that is attracted to what product or service you’re offering.

#5. TikTok

The thing I love about marketing on TikTok is that you can share short video clips. These videos can be of you talking, showing off work you’re doing, etc. Literally anything!

I know it can feel weird getting in front of a camera, but honestly it’s not a big deal. Just do it. Aim to get to 100 posts and you’re pretty much guaranteed to start seeing some traction.

TikTok is probably one of the best places to market on if you’re trying to target a younger audience, but these days just about everyone is on it… and the reach potential is absolutely humongous!

Things to Keep in Mind

No one starts out as an expert marketer. So don’t let a lack of skill, tools, money, etc. hold you back. You can only get better with practice. So the sooner you start your marketing journey, the sooner you’ll master the craft!

As with anything, you won’t see results overnight. So keep showing up – daily – doing what you can, and the results will start compounding before long.

Also, if you’re going to be marketing on multiple social media platforms, remember that you can often repurpose the same content for all (or most) of them.

Hire Professionals

More often than not it’s easier to just hire professionals to take care of the marketing for you. Especially if you have zero interest in doing it yourself and have extra cash to put towards marketing.

If you have a clear idea of what you are looking to do or get done, you just might be able to find someone on UpWork. Heck, there are even social media management companies on there that would be happy to take your business.

People often ask me “how can I get started mining bitcoin?” and I always smile. It took me hours upon hours of research before I went all in on crypto mining, and so condensing it all into a two minute conversation is hard.

So I’ve decided to write this short guide on how anyone can start mining crypto without first spending hours upon hours of research.

Can You Actually Mine Bitcoin?

The short answer is: Yes!

The longer answer is: No… not unless you have thousands of dollars to invest upfront. But stick with me. There is a work-around, and chances are good that you can start mining crypto today already using your laptop or home computer.

Let me explain: Bitcoin is so far advanced already that you need something called an Application-Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) miner. These things are not only expensive, but are extremely noisy and power hungry as well.

So if you are just starting out, I’d recommend focusing on mining coins that can be mined using a Graphics Processing Unit (GPU). In other words, mining coins like Ethereum or Raven that can be mined using the graphics card in your laptop or home computer.

You can always exchange those coins for Bitcoin afterwards if you prefer. In fact, if you keep following this short guide, I will show you how your mining “earnings” can converted to Bitcoin automatically.

Getting Started Mining Crypto

If you have a computer with a Windows operating system, I’d recommend heading over to the NiceHash profitability calculator to see if it would be profitable for you to start mining with it.

NOTE: Mining isn’t currently an option on Macs (Apple computers).

This is how I got started. I signed up for an account with NiceHash, then downloaded the NiceHash Miner, and started playing around with it and I instantly fell in love. Truth is, I had no idea it would be that easy.

There are a dozen different coins out there you can mine and even more mining software to mine them with, but if you’re just getting started, NiceHash is probably the easiest place to start.

Is Crypto Mining Still Profitable?

After a few days of mining on my laptop, I started creating spreadsheets with profit potential for different graphics cards. I did extensive research on cost of profitable graphics cards and realized that – at the time – I could get a Return On Investment (ROI) in as little as 4 months.

Of course this greatly depends on availability of affordable graphics cards, cost of electricity, value of coin you’re mining, etc. The ROI isn’t as quick as I’m writing this – largely because crypto is in a bit of a slump right now and also because affordable graphics cards are a little harder to get (due to chip shortage) but – it’s still very much doable!

If you intend to withdraw mining profits as quickly as you make them, it can be painful when the crypto market is down, but if you can create a bit of a buffer (where you withdraw only when market is up), it’s extremely rewarding.

So – a couple things to keep in mind:

1. First (and MOST important): Aim to learn a little bit more about crypto every day. If you’re researching things and feel overwhelmed, step away from it and come back tomorrow. Aim to compound your knowledge over days instead of trying to figure it all out in one sitting.
2. Hold (or HODL as it’s called in crypto space) when market is down. Only sell if you need to or when market is up Up UP.
3. Stay optimistic. It is SOOOOO easy to panic with every market dip when you’re new to crypto, but keep this in mind: Bitcoin is up 3200% since 5 years ago. Even if it only does half of that in the next 5 years, you can make a LOT of money by staying invested.

Conclusion

Yes, you can still mine crypto and get paid in Bitcoin. In fact, if you start mining with NiceHash (as I explained above), you can exchange your Bitcoin earnings into just about any crypto coin right on the NiceHash exchange.

If you have a laptop or computer running a Windows Operating System (OS), and it has a decent graphics card built in, you can probably already start mining today. And if crypto mining grows on you, consider investing in more profitable graphics cards to increase your daily earnings.

Here are a few rules that have proven to do wonders for me!

Rule #1: Be Prepared

How could you possibly prepare for opportunities you don’t know will strike? The short answer is: Look at the common denominator.

In the area of life you want to take advantage of more opportunities, what are they all tied to? What would you need to take advantage of that dream opportunity if it was here today? In other words: what is the one thing you can do today to take advantage of rare opportunities tomorrow?In the world of making money, this often times means having our finances sorted and having some savings set aside that allow us to jump on opportunities quickly when they present themselves.

In the world of relationships, this might mean becoming more confident, letting go of the emotional hurt of past relationships, or getting out of your comfort zone more by going places, etc. Main thing is: find out what would open you up to that ideal relationship opportunity.

In the world of business, if you want to land that perfect six-figure-a-month client, get your business into a position where it can quickly scale to handle such client. Or if you’re looking to increase your business drastically in volume, get into a position where you can quickly scale to handle large volumes.

There are plenty of opportunities. The question simply is: What kind of an opportunity are you looking for exactly? Once you figure that out, prepare to get into a position where you can handle such an opportunity should it present itself.

Let me give you a current example:

Have you ever heard of a social network known as Parlor? They have for a long time been trying to become a world recognized social media platform, yet were ill prepared when the opportunity of a lifetime presented itself.

A world renowned internet security expert (with a TON of relevant experience and a huge following) explained to his audience his reasons for not joining Parlor. Basically stating that Parlor had let someone impersonate him for months despite his continuous complaints to the company, that they were extremely vulnerable and unsafe due to the hosting they were using, etc.

Instead if appreciating his insights and acting on them, one of the founders of Parlor took to twitter with name-calling. It was definitely something you would expect from an arrogant teenager, but not from a grown-up business man.

The security expert responded with something like “hey, give me an hour and I will walk through your system with you and show how you can future proof the network” etc, etc, but the Parlor representative once again took to name calling instead of taking him up on his offer.

Now, I get that none of us like unsolicited advice. Unless asked for, advice is rarely welcomed. But this constructive criticism should have been welcomed with opened arms. Especially seeing who it was coming from.

Imagine Warren Buffet personally offering to show me how I can invest my retirement savings so I retire ultra wealthy instead of broke and poor. Instead of taking him up on his offer, imagine me resorting to name-calling him a “Coke drinking hog” instead.

Pretty dumb right? Yet that is exactly what was happening here!

Fast forward a month, and Facebook and Twitter both starting their censorship charade. Parlor starts to blow up. Hundreds of thousands of people started joining them. All was well for a couple days, until Amazon (Parlor’s hosting company) joins the censorship-train and – almost exactly as predicted by the security expert a month prior – banned Parlor from using them.

So not only was Parlor banned from the Android marketplace (by Google) and banned from the Apple app store (by Apple), but was basically erased from the internet by Amazon. And just like that Parlor was dead. OUCH!

Had Parlor listened to the security expert and migrated their hosting to a non-politicized host (among other things), they could have blown up to – eventually – replace Twitter. Whether they ever would have done so is debatable, but they had a really good shot at it, but alas… the opportunity of a lifetime struck and found them ill-prepared.

Gab.com (Facebook competitor) on the other hand took all these precautions ahead of time and look at them now: blowing up like there is no tomorrow. Thanks to Andrew Torba (Gab.com CEO) having the foresight to prepare for the opportunity of a lifetime, he was ready to “cash in” when the opportunity struck.

Moral of these examples:

1. Always listen intently to wise council
2. Always assume your dream opportunity will eventually strike, and do everything in your power to prepare for it.

In the words of Sir Winston Churchill:

To every man there comes in his lifetime that special moment when he is figuratively tapped on the shoulder and offered a chance to do a very special thing, unique to him and fitted to his talents. What a tragedy if that moment finds him unprepared or unqualified for the work which would be his finest hour.

Rule #2: Think Quick

Many pride themselves in foreseeing events, and yet fail to cash in when those events play out. Thus ultimately making their predictions worthless.

On the other hand, those who are able to think on their feet and see opportunities behind a changing tide – tend to get lucky.A story is told of a mute accountant who was hired by a big-time drug-lord. The drug-lord figured that since the accountant couldn’t speak, chances of him blowing his illegal operation wide open would be slim.

Things went well until one day the drug-lord noticed hundreds of thousands of dollars had gone missing.

He had the accountant brought before him and started questioning him, but the accountant pretended to not understand what the drug-lord was saying. The drug-lord figured he’d give him a chance, so he brought in a translator who was going to be translating between the two using sign-language.

The lord once again asked the accountant where the missing money went, and the accountant again played innocent and told the translator “I don’t know what he is talking about”.

This went back and forth until the drug-lord got so fed up that he pulled his pistol and held it to the accountants head and told the translator “Tell him I will pull the trigger if he doesn’t tell me where my money is!”

The translator signs to the accountant exactly what the drug-lord had said and he signs back “Okay okay, I hid the money under my bed. It’s all there, I promise. Just let me live!”

The drug-lord is getting impatient and asks the translator what the accountant had said. The translator – seeing his once in a lifetime opportunity for an easy fortune – says “He said, he doesn’t think you have the guts to pull that trigger!”

Brutal story, I know, but still a great example of what it means to be quick thinking when rare once in a lifetime opportunities present themselves.

Rule #3: Act Quicker

Jumping on opportunities is like trying to surf that perfect incoming wave. Act quick and you catch it. Hesitate too long and you’ll miss it.Did you ever see the Youtube video where a dad shot a few rounds through his daughter’s laptop to teach her a lesson? I remember watching it back in 2012 when it had about half a million views.

I was thinking to myself “he should monetize that video… that way he would get at least some money from this viral video of his.”

A week after he uploaded it, he had over 24,000,000 views on that video and guess what? Still not monetized!

UPDATE: He has done some monetizing since (created a blog, etc) and the video has since gone on to generate over 42 million views. Just CRAZY!

I won’t comment on the content of the video, but I’ll say this: An opportunity struck, and he missed out by not – immediately – jumping in with both feet.

I don’t care much for Adsense and as such I am not a heavy earner with them but I do make a few bucks off of my monetized videos every month and just taking my average Adsense earnings (from my videos) and spreading the formula over 24 million views, I conservatively estimate he should have easily earned at LEAST $50,000 in Adsense revenues alone (just in the first week alone).

Now of course, there are different ways of monetizing a video (like links to relevant products-for-sale in the description box, etc.) but he wasn’t doing ANY monetizing at all. I think it is safe to say that he missed out on roughly $100,000 USD just by not immediately seizing the opportunity that he was presented with.

Moral of the story? When a clear winning opportunity presents itself to you, don’t hesitate. Jump in all the way with both feet!

Conclusion

We are all presented with “once in a lifetime” opportunities and the more open minded and prepared we are, the more often such opportunities will cross our paths. The trick is to:

• get ready
• think quick
• act quicker.

Only when we do those three things can we embrace more once in a lifetime opportunities because we quite literally set ourselves up to see and act on them.

It is that very process that allowed me to recently acquire a tremendously undervalued piece of property for 16% below sellers minimum price. The best part? I got them to throw a second property in on the deal – for FREE!

To do that, I had to get my finances in order, keep an eye on the market to see if my ideal property would get listed, think quick when it arrived, and act even quicker to secure it.

What type of opportunities are you hoping to attract? What can you do today to be ready to act on them when they show up?
